Corny Thanksgiving

This card was made with a very special friend in mind... you know who you are!!!! She can be Kind Of Corny, and this card has her name all over it. She did receive it in the mail -  fashionably late but with most sincere wishes of thanks for our lovely friendship. Tis the season. I have made 2 Christmas cards so far... I am terrible at card sending.

The very funny thing about this card is, that my corny friend sent me a card made with the same stamp set. We have history here as you might guess. What a wonderful surprise it was to open her card just now. Same stamp set. Same oval hemstitch die.  I just love it! I was just waiting for her to receive mine before I posted this one. We both had a good laugh over this.

It was such a joy to make a card inspired by Michele's. I went with a white heart, surrounded by floral die cuts in shades of pink and a touch of green. I added a foiled die cut sentiment. All of the products except the sentiment (SSS) and the white heart (Spellbinders) are from Pinkfresh Studio. Guess whose work introduced me to that awesome company??? I created this card for my son's girlfriend's birthday. She is very much into astrology, and when I saw the Spellbinders Virgo Glimmer Hot Foil Plate, I knew that I had to use it to make a birthday card for her. I hot foiled using my new Glimmer Hot Foil System and some rose gold foil. This one came out well though I still need lots of tips and practice. I keep getting those little foil flecks where I don't want them! I die cut the foiled panel with a rectangular Spellbinders Hemstitch Die, backed it with pastel glitter card stock and popped it up on a white card base and my card was complete.

You Are Loved

 

Today, I watched THIS video by Jennifer McGuire, and immediately wanted to try this technique. It uses sanding blocks, and I actually had SU sanding blocks in my stash that have not seen the light of day for at least 10 years! Oh happy day! Here's to hoarding supplies... and I have about a million embossing folders. I am so glad to see EFs having a bit of a renaissance in the craft world these days. Since I still have Valentine stuff all over the place, I chose to try this with my Sizzix 3-D textured Impressions Hearts embossing folder.

I applied and blended 3 shades of Pink Distress Oxide Inks from dark to light onto Neenah Solar white 110# card stock. (next time I will use more contrasting colors). I ran the embossing folder through my die cut machine, then sanded the raised areas with the sanding block. The SSS You Are Loved Word and Shadow Die Set was already foiled and assembled and in my snippet box waiting to be used. I popped it up with foam tape and adhered it to my background. Done!

I just love the way this turned out, and of course, I went shopping afterwards from Jennifer's supply list, as I really loved doing this. Of course, I bought more embossing folders. Oy! It all started with a visit to one of my favorite crafty friends, and her wonderful card made for Let's Squash It, though she did not use this technique. The rest is shopping history. Tee hee hee.

O Christmas Tree

Time for a new challenge at Addicted to CAS. Our Code Word for ATCAS Challenge #174 is TREE.

Our Guest Designer is Vicky Hayes. Vicky is a lovely person and a very talented card maker who works wonders with design and color. Do yourself a favor and take a stroll through her blog for some wonderful inspiration. You will be so glad you did.

My card is created very simply using foiling and embossing. I printed a full sheet of card stock on a laser printer to use for foiling. I applied Ken Oliver's Stick It adhesive to the back of the piece from which I was going to die cut the Memory Box Flowering Christmas Tree. Once I cut the tree, I covered it with Gina K's Glittering Green Fancy Foil foil, and ran it through my laminator. I embossed the sentiment from Stamp Simply's O Christmas Tree on the card front, peeled the backing off the tree and adhered it to the card front to complete the card.

I am into experimenting with foiling these days. I used a stencil from Brutis Monroe and applied transfer gel. After It dried, I applied a piece of purple foil, and ran It through my laminator. The result was wonderful except for a little glitch on the right. I still like the way it turned out. I used a sentiment from Happy Little Stampers Beautiful Butterflies to complete my card.

Missing You At Christmas

I took my inspiration from the greenery on the wall and on the night stand, and the sentiment on the wall done in white on red. I tried foiling for the first time for this creation, and was thrilled with the result of my first try. I used foil from Gina K with a stencil from Funky Fossil Designs. What a fantastic resutl! The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp.
